Blenheim holds on for 6-4 win against Wallaceburg

The Wallaceburg Lakers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Blenheim Blades held on for a 6-4 victory.

Blenheim took a 6-3 lead during the third period, only to have Wallaceburg storm back on a Jeff Brown goal 18:05 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

Justin Delgado had a great game for the Blades, netting two goals. Delgado's tallies came at 4:15 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Blenheim and 8:30 into the second to make the score 3-1 Blenheim.

Blenheim forced the Lakers' goalies to work without much rest, ripping 36 shots and forcing 30 saves. Alex Carriere made 15 stops and Derion Ducedre made 15. The defensemen of the Blades were also effective in Wallaceburg's zone, and came away with three goals. Blenheim found itself short handed often, totaling 64 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

Blenheim also got points from Bryan Boersma, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Drew Marlatt, who also had one goal and two assists, and Corbin Hagerman, who also registered two goals and one assist. More assists for Blenheim came via Zack Horvath, who had three and Lucas Hickey, Owen Bateman, Brayden Seliga, Kier Cumming, and Braeden Allore, who each chipped in one.

The Lakers were led by George Wood, who racked up one goal and two assists. Wood scored 18:46 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Ritchie picked up the assist. Others who scored for Wallaceburg included Dylan Ryan and Brendan Ritchie, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Trevor Waller, Tyler McLean, and Jacob Theoret, who contributed one each.

Klinton Kenney made 18 saves for the Blades on 22 shots. Blenheim registered one goal on two power play opportunities. The Blades ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hickey was ejected from the game. Wallaceburg incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
