Dresden falls to Blenheim after surprising comeback

The Dresden Kings could not hold down the Blenheim Blades, and Blades erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 9-8 win.

Blenheim let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Blades took a 1-0 advantage on a power play goal by Zack Horvath at 3:45 in the first period. Blenheim went down 8-6 after Dresden's Dillon Liberty put the puck home at 13:28 in the third period. After tying things up at 8-8 on a goal by Drew Marlatt at 17:54 in the third, the Blades got the game-winner from Nolan VandenBoorn at 19:00 in the third period.

Horvath had two goals and four assists to lead Blenheim.

The Kings were unable to stop the Blades from sending pucks towards the net, and Blenheim eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Blades surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Blenheim has scored at the pace of 5.5 goals per game during the current campaign. The Blades cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on five chances. Blenheim got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Blenheim also got points from Marlatt, who also grabbed two goals and three assists. Braeden Allore also scored for Blenheim. Other players who recorded assists for Blenheim were Corbin Hagerman, who had two, Bryan Boersma, who had four, and Lucas Hickey, Justin Delgado, Brayden Seliga, Dustin Maines, and Bryce Broad, who each chipped in one.

Dresden's goal total was higher than its season average. The Kings average 4.3 goals per game. Dresden could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Kings were helped by Kevin Ritzer, who tallied two goals. Ritzer scored the first of his two goals at 16:00 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Dresden. Alex Hall picked up the assist. Ritzer's next tally made the score 7-5 Dresden with 2:34 left in the second period. Kyle Dawson provided the assist. Dresden additionally got points from Taylor Sisson, who also registered one goal and one assist, Liberty, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Dawson, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Geoffry (APM) VandenBoorn, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Derek Daly, who also registered one goal and one assist. Dresden also got a goal from Carter Smith as well. More assists for Dresden came via Will Tetzlaff, who had one, Brady Hogg, who had three, and John Montgomery and Derek Shaw, who each chipped in two.

Eric Stewardson rejected 21 shots on goal for the Blades. Blenheim incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Joel Sowinski made 28 saves for Dresden on 37 shots. The Kings registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
