Thunder AAA Hockey falls to St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) after surprising comeback

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) battled back to claim a 4-3 victory over Thunder AAA Hockey.

St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) never led in the game until netting the game winner. St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Thunder AAA Hockey's Renars Krastenbergs at 15:32 in the first period. St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Nick Balestra at 4:34 in the third period. St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) got the game winner on the power play at 11:04 in the third period on a goal by Balestra.

St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) got the win on the strength of a great game by Balestra, who had two goals and one assist. Balestra scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:11 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Thunder AAA Hockey. St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) had gotten the advantage when Thunder AAA Hockey's Jordan Cooper was sent off for slashing. Jared Preete picked up the assist. Balestra's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 15:26 left in the third period. Patrick Pence provided the assist.

St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) took advantage of Thunder AAA Hockey's penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities.

Others who scored for St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) included Trevor Wilhelm and Curtis Oliff, who each put in one. In addition, St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) received assists from Blake Freund, who had two and James Long and Michael Joyce, who contributed one each.

Thunder AAA Hockey was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 14 penalty minutes.

Thunder AAA Hockey was helped by Tyler Dill, who finished with one goal. Dill scored 4:26 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Thunder AAA Hockey. Kyle Podwika assisted on the tally. ERIC HIRSCHHAUT also scored for Thunder AAA Hockey. More assists for Thunder AAA Hockey came via SCOTT AARON, Miles Evans, PAUL RABY, and Tyler Runyan, who each chipped in one.

Jake Barczewski recorded 23 saves for St. Louis AAA Blues (MM). St. Louis AAA Blues (MM) incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Thunder AAA Hockey's Jonathan Chin stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Thunder AAA Hockey registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
