Port Dover outlasts Dunnville, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Port Dover Sailors escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Brad Johnson's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Port Dover's penalty kill excelled, as the Sailors gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Port Dover was paced by Johnson, who registered one goal. Johnson scored on the power play 19:00 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Port Dover. The Sailors had gained a power play chance when Travis Sheldrake was whistled for cross checking. Braden Roberts provided the assist.

Port Dover stifled Dunnville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Mudcats were unable to stop the Sailors from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Dover eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Port Dover additionally got points from Eric Mueller, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Port Dover included Eric O`Keefe and Josh Turberfield, who each put in one. More assists for Port Dover came via Bradon Dunnett and Ryan Sullivan, who contributed one each and Michael Boateng and Steve Goeree, who each chipped in two.

Dunnville was helped by Damien Lalonde, who had one goal. Lalonde scored 8:53 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Darcy Muller picked up the assist. Josh Phibbs also scored for Dunnville. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Josh Meeuwse, who had one and Devin Lampert, who had two.

Riley Edwards made 24 saves for the Sailors on 26 shots. Port Dover incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Jr. Mudcats' Brennan Head stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Dunnville incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
