Port Dover blows out Simcoe, 9-1Port Dover Sat, Jan 02, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Port Dover Sailors were firing on all cylinders against the Simcoe Storm, and when the final buzzer sounded Sailors emerged with a 9-1 win. Brad Johnson was all over the ice for Port Dover, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Johnson scored the first of his two goals at 1:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Dover. Johnson's next tally made the score 7-1 Port Dover with 10:50 left in the third period. Braden Roberts provided the assist. The Sailors put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Simcoe to score on any of its three power plays. The Storm were unable to stop Port Dover from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sailors eventually piled up 56 shots on goal. Port Dover's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Sailors average 3.7 goals per contest. Port Dover additionally got points from Michael Almas, who also had one goal and two assists, Eric Mueller, who also registered one goal and two assists, Steve Goeree, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Roberts, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Bradon Dunnett also scored for Port Dover. More assists for Port Dover came via Josh Turberfield, who had two and Travis Walker and Chad Carey, who contributed one each. Simcoe racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Storm had been spending in the box. Riley Edwards rejected 23 shots on goal for Port Dover. The Sailors totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For Port Dover, Matt Fulton was ejected from the game. Tyson Taylor recorded 47 saves for Simcoe. The Storm ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alexander Polillo was ejected from the game.
