Dunnville pulls away in second, rolls over Simcoe, 7-1Talbot Gardens Sun, Dec 27, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Simcoe Storm allowed the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats to net four goals during the second period and fell, 7-1. Chad Springer had two goals and one assist to lead Dunnville. Springer scored the first of his two goals at 3:17 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Dunnville. Mitch Holodniuk picked up the assist. Springer's next tally made the score 4-0 Dunnville with 3:58 left in the second period. Mark Topp assisted on the tally. The Jr. Mudcats were led by goalie Brennan Head, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. Head managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.74 prior to the game. Dunnville forced Storm's goaltenders to work without much rest, firing 31 shots and forcing 24 saves. Tyson Taylor made 12 stops and Nathen McKinnon made 12. The Jr. Mudcats put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Simcoe to score on any of its four power plays. Dunnville's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Jr. Mudcats average 3.9 goals per contest. Others who scored for Dunnville included Matt Dolan, who had two and Josh Meeuwse, Steven Czepek, and Sawyer Madden, who each put in one. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Connor Schmalz, who had four, Dane Koabel, Darcy Muller, and Cody LeVasseur, who contributed one each, and Josh Phibbs and Devin Lampert, who each chipped in two. Dunnville was unable to stop the Storm from sending pucks towards the net, and Simcoe eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The Jr. Mudcats incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Storm incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
