Dunnville penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Port DoverDunnville Memorial Arena Tue, Dec 22, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Dunnville Jr. Mudcats' penalty kill was superb, as Dunnville survived multiple penalties to beat the Port Dover Sailors, 5-2. The Jr. Mudcats were led by Matt Ruigrok APM, who finished with one goal. Ruigrok APM scored 13:20 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Dunnville. Jake MacDougall picked up the assist. Dunnville stifled Port Dover's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Mudcats kept the Sailors' goalie busy throughout the game, and Rene Kloepfer made 28 saves on 33 shots. Dunnville additionally got points from Josh Phibbs, who also had one goal and one assist, Matt Dolan, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Connor Schmalz, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Dunnville also got a goal from Josh Meeuwse as well. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Mitch Holodniuk, Mark Topp, Damien Lalonde, and Millar Leniew, who contributed one each. Port Dover's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Sailors finished with 25 penalty minutes. Port Dover was led by Steve Goeree, who registered one goal and one assist. Goeree scored 3:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Dover. Connor Epping assisted on the tally. Eric Mueller also scored for Port Dover. Jesse Schoeman recorded 17 saves for Dunnville. The Jr. Mudcats incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Sailors registered zero goals on eight power play opportunities. For Port Dover, Ryan Sullivan and Colton McLeod were ejected from the contest.
