Grimsby survives Port Dover comeback, wins 5-4

The Grimsby Peach Kings survived a determined comeback attempt by the Port Dover Sailors on the way to a 5-4 win.

Grimsby took a 5-2 lead during the second period, only to have Port Dover storm back on a Michael Boateng goal 11:04 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Garnet McComber had a great game for the Peach Kings, netting two goals.

Grimsby additionally got points from Curtis Conrad, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Grimsby included Kyle Kozielski and James Thorpe, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Trevor McEneny, Dillon Cipretti, Joshua Kozielski, and Brennan Smith, who each chipped in one and Jeromy Hopkins and Brady Cranwell, who contributed two each.

The Sailors forced Grimsby goalie Jeremy Currie to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Port Dover's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Sailors were led by Eric O`Keefe, who finished with two goals. O`Keefe scored the first of his two goals at 6:32 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Grimsby. Connor Epping assisted on the tally. O`Keefe's next tally made the score 5-3 Grimsby with 18:41 left in the third period. Steve Goeree picked up the assist. Port Dover also got points from Boateng, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Chad Carey also scored for Port Dover. In addition, Port Dover received assists from Riley Vanhorne, Michael Almas, Braden Roberts, and Josh Turberfield, who each chipped in one.

Currie rejected 34 shots on goal for the Peach Kings. Grimsby incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Riley Edwards took the loss and made 12 saves before being replaced by Rene Kloepfer who made 13 saves. Port Dover incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
