Niagara beats Grimsby 6-4 after comeback scare

The Grimsby Peach Kings tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Niagara Riverhawks held on for a 6-4 victory.

A goal by Robert Shaw put Niagara up 6-3 in the third period, but Grimsby pulled to within two on Lucas Fantauzzo's tally 13:52 into the third period.

The Riverhawks forced Peach Kings' goalies to work without much rest, launching 36 shots and forcing 30 saves. Jeremy Currie made 11 stops and Marcus Hlywka made 19.

Niagara was led by Brandon McLean, who finished with three goals. Niagara additionally got points from Andrew Somerville, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Dante Zawadzki also scored for Niagara. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara were Jamie Bennett, who had one and Alex Cipriano, who had three.

The Peach Kings' offense rang up 42 shots on the Riverhawks' net.

Grimsby also got points from Marcus Brydon, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Grimsby also got a goal from Nicholas Purves as well. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Aiden McCreadie and Addison DeTullio, who each chipped in one.

Niagara's Scott Charanduk stopped 38 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Riverhawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Grimsby incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
