Niagara blows out Hagersville, 5-1Hagersville Sat, Nov 21, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Niagara Riverhawks had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Hagersville Hawks. Niagara's penalty kill excelled, as the Riverhawks gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Niagara was led by Matt Somerville, who finished with one goal. Somerville scored 6:34 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Niagara. Dawson Ethier picked up the assist. Hagersville was unable to stop the Riverhawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Niagara eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Team could not crack the Hawks' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. The defensemen of the Riverhawks were also effective in Hagersville's zone, and came away with two goals. Niagara also had goals scored by Alex Gonyou, Bailey Sowrey, Jamie Bennett, and Jarrod Peacock, who each put in one. More assists for Niagara came via Dante Zawadzki, who had two and Kyle Hardy and Andrew Somerville, who each chipped in one. The Hawks could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Hagersville averages 4.1 goals per game. The Hawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 54 penalty minutes. Scott Charanduk rejected 24 shots on goal for Niagara. The Riverhawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Stephen Tierney made 32 saves for Hagersville on 37 shots. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Clayton Millard was ejected from the game.
