Huge game by Sherwood boosts Glanbrook over Simcoe, 8-2

Behind a great game by Nicholas Sherwood, who had two goals and three assists, the Glanbrook Rangers defeated the Simcoe Storm, 8-2.

Sherwood's tallies came at 8:25 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and 6:27 into the third to make the score 5-2 Glanbrook.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:16 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Glanbrook forced Simcoe's goalies to work in net, firing 55 shots and forcing 47 saves. Nathen McKinnon made 15 stops and Tyson Taylor made 32. The Rangers stifled the Storm's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Glanbrook found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Rangers average 5.1 goals per game.

Glanbrook additionally got points from Chris Haigh, who also grabbed four goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Justin Whitwell, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Brad Parish, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Glanbrook came via Michael Fortino, Garnet Batrynchuk, Ryan Laufman, and Matthew Venturelli, who each chipped in one and Brett Farrelly and Cole Anderson, who contributed two each.

Simcoe forced Glanbrook's goaltenders to work between the pipes, racking up 38 shots and forcing 36 saves. Venturelli made 30 stops and Thomas Caravan made six.

The Storm were helped by Drake Bailey, who racked up one goal. Bailey scored 6:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Simcoe. Riley Wilson provided the assist. Cameron Tonner also scored for Simcoe. Other players who recorded assists for Simcoe were Kent Wardell, Tyson Mike, and Austin Lamb, who each chipped in one.

The Rangers totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Glanbrook ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Anger was ejected from the game. Simcoe totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Team's Grant McKenzie and Wilson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
