Grimsby pulls away in second, rolls over Simcoe, 9-0

The Grimsby Peach Kings used a four-goal second period to put away the Simcoe Storm, 9-0.

Marcus Hlywka frustrated Simcoe's offense all game, and stopped 31 shots en route to a shutout. Hlywka managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.45 prior to the game.

Marcus Brydon was all over the ice for Grimsby, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Brydon scored the first of his two goals at 11:59 into the second period to make the score 4-0 Grimsby. Kyle Kozielski provided the assist. Brydon's next tally made the score 8-0 Grimsby with 7:29 left in the third period. The Peach Kings had taken the advantage when the Storm's Grant McKenzie got sent off for head contact. Jeromy Hopkins picked up the assist.

Grimsby put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Simcoe to score on any of its four power plays. The Peach Kings' defense was surprisingly good. Grimsby gives up 2.4 goals on average per game. The Peach Kings' offense rang up 48 shots on the Storm's net. Grimsby surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Peach Kings average 4.6 goals per contest.

Grimsby additionally got points from Dillon Cipretti, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Hopkins, who also registered one goal and two assists, Nicholas Purves, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Curtis Conrad, who also had one goal and one assist, and James Thorpe, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Grimsby included Garnet McComber and Brady Cranwell, who scored one goal each. More assists for Grimsby came via Aiden McCreadie, Jerrod Peacock, Joshua Kozielski, Gaetano DAlesio, and Brennan Smith, who each chipped in one.

Simcoe's offense rang up 31 shots on Grimsby's net. The Storm struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 36 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

The Peach Kings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Nate Prusky recorded 39 saves for Simcoe.
