Hagersville wins tough contest against Dundas, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Hagersville Hawks escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Dundas Blues.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Brayden Hill at 11:01 of the second period.

Hagersville's penalty kill excelled, as the Hawks gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Hagersville was sparked by Matt Lemassuir, who registered one goal. Lemassuir scored on the power play 19:28 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Hagersville. A holding penalty on Greg Harley had put the Hawks on the power play. Cole Martin picked up the assist.

Hagersville forced Dundas goalie Colin Bilik to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Hagersville also had goals scored by Austin Cairns and Derek Friesen, who scored one goal each. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Bailey Fletcher and Mitch Green, who contributed one each.

The Blues were held below their usual level of production. Dundas puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. The Blues' offense rang up 34 shots on the Hawks' net. Dundas' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Blues finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Dundas was led by Liam Buckley, who finished with two goals. Buckley scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dundas. The Blues had taken the advantage when Hagersville's Green got sent off for interference. Ray Thompson assisted on the tally. Buckley's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Hagersville with 15:56 left in the third period. Cam Docherty picked up the assist. More assists for Dundas came via Chris Cudek, who had one.

Stephen Tierney made 32 saves for the Hawks on 34 shots. Hagersville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Dundas' Bilik stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced.
