Hagersville survives Simcoe comeback, wins 5-3

The Simcoe Storm tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Hagersville Hawks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

A goal by Domenic Evangelista put Hagersville up 5-2 in the third period, but Simcoe pulled to within two on Jarrrett McCarthy's tally 18:49 into the third period.

The Hawks got the win behind a great game by Derek Friesen, who had two goals and two assists. Friesen scored the first of his two goals at 5:24 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hagersville. Bailey Fletcher assisted on the tally. Friesen's next tally made the score 3-1 Hagersville with 11:46 left in the third period. Fletcher picked up the assist.

Hagersville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Hawks kept the Storm's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nathen McKinnon made 35 saves on 40 shots.

Hagersville additionally got points from Fletcher, who also had one goal and three assists. Hagersville also got a goal from Cole Dezainne as well. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Max Gunter, Mitch Green, and Dan Mederios, who each chipped in one.

Simcoe was helped by Riley Wilson, who racked up one goal and one assist. Wilson scored 9:16 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Hagersville. Alexander Polillo provided the assist. Simcoe also got points from Polillo, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Simcoe came via Kent Wardell, Ben Woods, Bradley Stitt, and Ben Curtin, who contributed one each.

Ryan Guy made 21 saves for Hagersville on 24 shots. The Hawks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Storm incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
