Hagersville rips Niagara, 3-0

The Niagara Riverhawks had trouble finding ways to stop the Hagersville Hawks, which beat Riverhawks, 3-0.

Dan Mederios had two goals to lead Hagersville to victory. Mederios' tallies came at 11:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hagersville and 16:20 into the third to make the score 4-0 Hagersville.

The Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Hagersville gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Hawks stifled Niagara's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hagersville featured an improved defense during the game. The Hawks average 2.5 goals allowed per game. Hagersville's offense rang up 44 shots on the Riverhawks' net. The Hawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 40 penalty minutes.

Hagersville also got points from Cole Dezainne, who also had one goal and one assist and MIchael Arch, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Hagersville came via Derek Friesen, who had two and Clayton Millard and Domenic Evangelista, who each chipped in one.

Niagara could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Riverhawks average 3.9 goals per game. Niagara could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 48 minutes in penalties during the game.

Stephen Tierney rejected 23 shots on goal for Hagersville. The Hawks registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Sebastian Iannone recorded 41 saves for the Riverhawks.
