Niagara rides Charanduk to victory over Grimsby, 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Scott Charanduk helped the Niagara Riverhawks defeat the Grimsby Peach Kings, 2-1.

Niagara's penalty kill excelled, as the Riverhawks gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

Niagara was led by Andrew Somerville, who had one goal. Somerville scored 18:21 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Niagara.

The Riverhawks stifled Grimsby's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Niagara kept the Peach Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jeremy Currie made 30 saves on 32 shots. The Riverhawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Danny Gallagher also scored for Niagara. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara were Danny Ledwez and Richard Deschatelets, who contributed one each.

Grimsby put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Niagara to score on any of its six power plays. The Peach Kings forced the Riverhawks goalie Charanduk to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Grimsby was led by Addison DeTullio, who scored the team's only goal. DeTullio scored 17:52 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Luca Fantuzzzo assisted on the tally.

Charanduk recorded 31 saves for Niagara. The Peach Kings incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Grimsby ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle Kozielski was ejected from the game.
