Wooster wins tough contest against Pittsburgh, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Wooster escaped with a 4-2 victory over Pittsburgh.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Nick Mooney's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Pittsburgh fell victim to a deadly Wooster power play, which ripped Pittsburgh for four goals.

Wooster was led by Noah Keener, who tallied one goal. Keener scored on the power play 13:08 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wooster. Wooster had gained a power play chance when Adam Schaffer was whistled for abuse of officials. Tyler Groth picked up the assist.

Wooster forced Pittsburgh goalie Jacob Stack to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Wooster could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. Wooster's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Wooster also had goals scored by Brad Sneed and Mike Ragone, who each put in one. In addition, Wooster received assists from Tyler Houmard, who had one and Mike Zenone, who had two.

Pittsburgh forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 13.0 minutes per game Pittsburgh had been spending in the box. Pittsburgh's offense rang up 38 shots on Wooster's net.

Pittsburgh was helped by Dominick Glavach, who registered one goal. Glavach scored on the power play 43 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wooster. Anthony Szurlej assisted on the tally. Pittsburgh also got a goal from James Unger as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pittsburgh were Vincent Casale and Darrien Sroka, who each chipped in one.

Joe Morgan made 36 saves for Wooster on 38 shots. Pittsburgh's Stack stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Pittsburgh registered one goal on 11 power play opportunities. For Pittsburgh, Schaffer was ejected from the game.
