Atlanta beats Evansville 8-3 as Johanson gets hat trick

Evansville could not stop Atlanta's Alex Johanson, who tallied a hat trick in an 8-3 win.

Johanson's first goal came 12:01 into the first period. He then added goals at 17:17 into the second and at 7:08 into the third.

Atlanta forced Evansville goalie Adam Conkling to work between the pipes, taking 57 shots. Atlanta found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Atlanta has scored at the pace of 5.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals.

Atlanta additionally got points from Andrew Cooley, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Riley Hummitsch, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Atlanta included Jack Cleaver, Ross Bartlett, and Colin OConnor, who each put in one. In addition, Atlanta received assists from Arturas Laukaitis, who had two, Kyle Rimbach and Dylan Wattles, who each chipped in one, and Philip Pugliese and Evan Camba, who contributed three each.

Evansville was led by Cedric Calhoun, who registered one goal and one assist. Calhoun scored 16:43 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Atlanta. Jon Grimm provided the assist. Evansville also had goals scored by Brandon Bornkamp and Scott Jacobson, who scored one goal each. More assists for Evansville came via Ben Baker and Mathieu Laforest, who each chipped in one.

Aleksandr Zendejas rejected 17 shots on goal for Atlanta. Atlanta incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Conkling recorded 49 saves for Evansville. Evansville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
