Evansville outlasts Cincinnati, 3-2

Evansville gutted out a close 3-2 win against Cincinnati.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Mathieu Laforest secured the win for Evansville with a goal in the third period.

Evansville was paced by Laforest, who racked up one goal and one assist. Laforest scored 16:50 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Evansville. Brandon Rozema picked up the assist.

Evansville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and one major for 69 minutes in penalty time. Evansville had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Evansville forced Cincinnati goalie Daniel Dolliver to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Evansville also had goals scored by Jon Grimm and Brian Crink, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Evansville were Zach Faith, Michael Kelley, and Brandon Bornkamp, who contributed one each.

Cincinnati forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Cincinnati surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Cincinnati kept Evansville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Adam Conkling made 44 saves on 46 shots. Team could not crack Evansville's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Cincinnati was helped by Arsenii Vashchuk, who had one goal. Vashchuk scored on the power play 16:31 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Jacob Friedman assisted on the tally. Cincinnati also got a goal from Rory Callihan as well. In addition, Cincinnati received assists from Samuel Dorff, Andrew Kraska, and Kyle Kinnaman, who each chipped in one.

Evansville registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Evansville, Scott Jacobson was ejected from the game. Dolliver recorded 32 saves for Cincinnati.
