Billings completes comeback, beats Glacier, 7-5

Billings climbed out of a four-goal hole to beat Glacier, 7-5.

Billings never led in the game until netting the game winner. Billings fell behind 5-1 after a goal by Glacier's Collin Schieman at 19:21 in the second period. Billings tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Cameron Birklid at 9:26 in the third period. Billings netted the game winner at 18:28 in the third period on a goal by Birklid.

Billings was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Billings had been averaging 15.0 minutes in penalties per game. Billings forced Glacier's goaltenders to work without much rest, ripping 49 shots and forcing 42 saves. Kevin Hale made five stops and Raymond Smith made 37. Billings' goal total was higher than its season average. Billings has scored at the pace of 2.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Billings was led by Chris Nicolai, who registered three goals and two assists. Billings additionally got points from Tristan Henrichs, who also racked up one goal and three assists and Mason Graves, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Billings were Wolfgang Davis, who had one, Connor Melton, who had two, and Zach Heiser, who had three.

Glacier racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Glacier had been spending in the box. Glacier forced Billings' goalies to work between the pipes, launching 50 shots and forcing 45 saves. Kyle Jacobs made 20 stops and Gage Overby made 25. Glacier surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Glacier averages 2.3 goals per game.

Glacier also got points from Logan Kraft, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and William Bostwick, who also registered one goal and one assist. Tyler McMahon also scored for Glacier. In addition, Glacier received assists from Ronald Robertson, Brendan Echelbarger, Tim VanTuinen, and Blake Hanson, who each chipped in one.

Billings registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Glacier registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Glacier ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and VanTuinen was ejected from the game.
