North Iowa stifles Minnesota's comeback, gains 4-2 victory

North Iowa came close to giving away a three-goal lead to Minnesota, but did just enough to escape with a 4-2 victory.

North Iowa led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when North Iowa's Jeff Solow scored on the power play at 12:13 in the first period to put North Iowa up 3-0.

North Iowa was held below its usual level of production. North Iowa averages 6.3 goals per game. North Iowa forced Minnesota goalie Isiah Dilley to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

North Iowa was helped by Marshall Barnes, who finished with one goal. Barnes scored 8:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Iowa. Carmen Dalesandro picked up the assist. Others who scored for North Iowa included Tommy Hall and Sean Mallonee, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for North Iowa were Shane Bernhardson, who had two and Ryan Durant and Riley Meyer, who contributed one each.

Minnesota was helped by Tre Opack, who registered one goal. Opack scored on the power play 1:30 into the third period to make the score 3-1 North Iowa. A high sticking penalty on Austin Jackson had put Minnesota on the power play. Ty Ennis provided the assist. Tyler Leverty also scored for Minnesota. In addition, Minnesota received assists from Dylan Pechovnik and Steele Drenning, who each chipped in one.

Zack St. John made 12 saves before being replaced by Tommi Ahlgren, who took the win and made five saves. North Iowa incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Minnesota's Dilley stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Minnesota incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
