Van Wyk's big game bests Evansville in 8-1 Nashville win

Kyle Van Wyk had one goal and three assists to lead Nashville to an 8-1 victory over Evansville.

Van Wyk beat Brian Forness with a shot 2:03 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Nashville. Noah Keener picked up the assist. Van Wyk dished an assist on Declan ONeal's goal that made the score 2-0 Nashville at 19:58 into the first period. He then added assists on Peter Cabala's goal at 13:25 into the third and on Keener's goal at 15:06 into the third.

Nashville forced Evansville goalie Forness to work between the pipes, taking 61 shots. Nashville bested its season scoring average. Nashville averages 4.1 goals per game. Nashville got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Nashville also got points from Keener, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Josh Hill, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Nashville included Dakota Wilson, Michael Redmon, and Nicholas Redmon, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Nashville were Jesse Hyde, William Garrity, Trent Kulczyk, Riley Holden, Dylan Schmidt, Conor Cunningham, and Colton Anderson, who each chipped in one and Max Dorfman and Logan Orem, who contributed two each.

Evansville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Evansville had been averaging 15.0 minutes in penalties per game. Nashville's defense shut down Evansville's forwards for much of the game, and Evansville got off only nine shots during the contest.

Evansville was led by Brandon Bornkamp, who scored the team's only goal. Bornkamp scored 4:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Nashville. Michael Kelley assisted on the tally.

Ricky Gonzalez made eight saves for Nashville on nine shots. Nashville totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Forness rejected 53 shots on goal for Evansville. Evansville registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
