Toledo pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over West Michigan on a clutch goal by Austin Turner. West Michigan was unable to stop Toledo from sending pucks towards the net, and Toledo eventually piled up 58 shots on goal. Toledo had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances. Toledo additionally got points from Tristin Snyder, who also registered one goal and one assist. Toledo also got a goal from Ethan Resetar as well. In addition, Toledo received assists from David Bogart, Josh Smith, Nolan Stanley, Alec Walny, and Nick Nappi, who contributed one each and Tyler Zalecki and Ben Hamilton, who each chipped in two. West Michigan forced Toledo goalie Glen Bates to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. West Michigan could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. West Michigan was led by Brendon Block, who tallied two goals. Block scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:27 into the second period to make the score 1-1. West Michigan had taken the advantage when Toledo's Darryl Kuchcinski got sent off for high sticking. Dakota Ulmer provided the assist. Block's next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with 9:36 left in the third period. West Michigan had gained a power play chance when Snyder was whistled for hooking. Justin Bloomfield picked up the assist. West Michigan also had goals scored by Mitch Kalleward and Devan Bayne, who each put in one. More assists for West Michigan came via Ryan Price, John Hayward, and Corey Siwula, who contributed one each. Bates recorded 38 saves for Toledo. Toledo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Joe Licata made 53 saves for West Michigan on 58 shots. West Michigan registered two goals on four power play opportunities. |
