Les Canadiennes penalty kill dominates in 3-1 defeat of Toronto Furies

Les Canadiennes, which found itself down a man often, weathered Toronto Furies' power play opportunities and emerged with a 3-1 victory.

Les Canadiennes was paced by Kim Deschenes, who tallied one goal. Deschenes scored 10:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Les Canadiennes. Ann-Sophie Bettez picked up the assist.

Les Canadiennes stifled Toronto Furies' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Les Canadiennes' offense rang up 33 shots on Toronto Furies' net. Les Canadiennes' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Les Canadiennes finished with 18 penalty minutes.

Les Canadiennes also got points from Katia Clement-Heydra, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Bettez, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Les Canadiennes received assists from Chelsey Saunders and Sophie Brault, who contributed one each.

Toronto Furies' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Les Canadiennes power plays. Toronto Furies could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Toronto Furies was led by Natalie Spooner, who scored the team's only goal. Spooner scored short handed 6:46 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Toronto Furies. A roughing call on Emily Fulton put Toronto Furies on the penalty kill. Sena Suzuki provided the assist.

Charline Labonte recorded 21 saves for Les Canadiennes. Christina Kessler made 30 saves for Toronto Furies on 32 shots. Toronto Furies registered zero goals on six power play opportunities.
