Brampton Thunder survives Toronto Furies comeback, wins 5-4

Toronto Furies tried to dig itself out of a two-goal hole, but Brampton Thunder held on for a 5-4 victory.

Brampton Thunder made the score 5-3 on a goal by Laura Fortino at 18:09 in the third period, and Toronto Furies got as close as 5-4 when Natalie Spooner scored 18:30 into the third period.

Brampton Thunder's offense rang up 39 shots on Toronto Furies' net. The defensemen of Brampton Thunder were also effective in Toronto Furies' zone, and came away with three goals. Brampton Thunder could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Brampton Thunder was led by Fielding Montgomery, who tallied two goals. Montgomery scored the first of her two goals short handed at 5:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brampton Thunder. Brampton Thunder found itself down a man on Jess Jones's delay of game. Kristen Richards provided the assist. Montgomery's next tally short handed made the score 2-1 Brampton Thunder with 1:28 left in the first period. Brampton Thunder was on a disadvantage when Jocelyne Larocque went off the ice for holding. Richards picked up the assist. Sarah Edney also scored for Brampton Thunder. In addition, Brampton Thunder received assists from Jenna McParland, who had two and Rebecca Vint, Laura McIntosh, and Courtney Birchard, who contributed one each.

Brampton Thunder was unable to stop Toronto Furies from sending pucks towards the net, and Toronto Furies eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Toronto Furies was helped by Carolyne Prevost, who finished with two goals. Prevost scored the first of her two goals on the power play at 16:44 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Toronto Furies had taken the advantage when Brampton Thunder's Dania Simmonds got sent off for interference. Shannon Moulson assisted on the tally. Prevost's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Toronto Furies with 9:43 left in the second period. Kori Cheverie picked up the assist. More assists for Toronto Furies came via Emily Fulton, who had two and Tara French and Alyssa Baldin, who each chipped in one.

Liz Knox rejected 31 shots on goal for Brampton Thunder. Brampton Thunder registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Toronto Furies' Sonja van der Bliek stopped 34 shots out of the 38 that she faced. Toronto Furies incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
