Lovell's hat trick boosts Calgary Inferno over Toronto Furies, 9-5

Elana Lovell netted a hat trick to lead Calgary Inferno over Toronto Furies, 9-5.

Lovell notched her first tally 19:10 into the first period. He then added goals at 15:53 into the second and at 13:30 into the third.

Calgary Inferno forced Toronto Furies' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 38 shots and forcing 29 saves. Olivia Ross made 11 stops and Christina Kessler made 18. Calgary Inferno found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Calgary Inferno has scored at the pace of 4.6 goals per game during the current campaign. Calgary Inferno's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Calgary Inferno gives up 2.4 goals per game.

Calgary Inferno additionally got points from Bailey Bram, who also registered one goal and one assist, Hayleigh Cudmore, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Blayre Turnbull, who also registered one goal and one assist. Calgary Inferno also had goals scored by Brittany Esposito, Jill Saulnier, and Louise Warren, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Calgary Inferno were Sarah Davis, Kristen Hagg, and Aina Takeuchi, who contributed one each and Brianne Jenner, Jessica Campbell, and Hayley Wickenheiser, who each chipped in two.

Toronto Furies surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Toronto Furies averages 2.3 goals per game. Toronto Furies could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Toronto Furies was helped by Natalie Spooner, who had two goals. Spooner scored the first of her two goals on the power play at 4:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toronto Furies. Toronto Furies had gained a power play chance when Saulnier was whistled for hooking. Alyssa Baldin picked up the assist. Spooner's next tally on the power play made the score 5-2 Calgary Inferno with 7:06 left in the second period. Toronto Furies had gotten the advantage when Calgary Inferno's Jacquie Pierri was sent off for slashing. Carolyne Prevost provided the assist. Toronto Furies also got points from Kori Cheverie, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Toronto Furies included Ashton Hogan and Kelly Terry, who each put in one. In addition, Toronto Furies received assists from Kristy Zamora, who had one.

Delayne Brian rejected 23 shots on goal for Calgary Inferno. Calgary Inferno incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Toronto Furies registered three goals on six power play opportunities.
