Brockville uses shootout to best Carleton Place, 4-3 (2-1 SO)Carleton Place Arena Sun, Feb 21, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brockville Braves defeated the Carleton Place Canadians in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Carleton Place got a shootout goal from Jordan Larson. Brockville's other shootout goal was scored by Neil Robinson.The Braves saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Brockville made the score 3-1 on a goal by Ian Johnston at 1:30 in the third period. The Canadians evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Larson at 13:37 in the third period. Carleton Place's power play was ineffective against the Braves' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Brockville was helped by Robinson, who registered one goal. Robinson scored on the power play 43 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Brockville. Jack Billings picked up the assist. Brockville also got a goal from Thomas Dunleavy as well. More assists for Brockville came via Michael Murray, Jack Gill, Andrew Jarvis, and Ryan Markovic, who each chipped in one. The Canadians forced the Braves goalie Michael Cerasuolo to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Carleton Place was helped by Maxime StPierre, who tallied one goal. StPierre scored on the power play 4:16 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Brockville. The Canadians had gotten the advantage when Brockville's Cameron Crotty was sent off for boarding. Connor Merkley provided the assist. Carleton Place also got points from Bryce VanHorn, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Nicolas Carrier, who had two and Lucas Batt and Braedyn Asselstine, who contributed one each. The Braves' Cerasuolo stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Brockville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Colton Point made 21 saves for Carleton Place on 24 shots. The Canadians incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
