Smiths Falls wins tough contest against Carleton Place, 4-3Carleton Place Arena Mon, Feb 15, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Smiths Falls Bears escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Carleton Place Canadians. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Corey Caruso secured the win for Smiths Falls with a goal in the second period. Caruso had a great game for the Bears, netting two goals. Smiths Falls' penalty kill unit could not stop Carleton Place's power play, which converted on two of three opportunities. Smiths Falls additionally got points from Sterling Bray, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Nicolas Coates, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Brett Garvey and Joey Rutkowski, who contributed one each and Chris MacMillan and Jesse Blais, who each chipped in two. The Canadians were helped by Maxime StPierre, who registered one goal. StPierre scored 4:48 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Lucas Batt provided the assist. Carleton Place also had goals scored by Shawn Kennedy and Bryce VanHorn, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Will LeNeave, Matt Lombardozzi, and Nicolas Carrier, who contributed one each. Evan DeBrouwer recorded 26 saves for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Carleton Place's James Edwardson stopped 17 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Canadians ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Carleton Place ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Braedyn Asselstine was ejected from the game.
