Brockville uses shootout to best Smiths Falls, 7-6 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brockville Braves defeated the Smiths Falls Bears in a shootout 7-6 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Brockville kept Smiths Falls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Evan DeBrouwer made 28 saves on 35 shots. The Braves found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Brockville averages 3.3 goals per contest.

The Braves were led by Jack Billings, who registered three goals. Brockville also got points from Tre Folkes, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Chris Chaddock, who also had one goal and one assist. Eric Faith also scored for Brockville. More assists for Brockville came via Jack Gill, who had two and Thomas Dunleavy, Vincenzo Renda, Ian Johnston, Stuart Fierheller, and Cameron Crotty, who each chipped in one.

The Bears forced Brockville goalie Henry Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Smiths Falls surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Bears average 3.8 goals per game.

Smiths Falls was helped by Jesse Blais, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Blais scored the first of his two goals at 2:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Michael McKenney picked up the assist. Blais' next tally made the score 5-5 with 10:06 left in the third period. Jared Henry provided the assist. Smiths Falls additionally got points from Chris MacMillan, who also registered one goal and two assists and McKenney, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Josh Leblanc and Cole Busschaert, who scored one goal each. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Broydon Stufko, Corey Caruso, Sterling Bray, Joey Rutkowski, and Zach Main, who contributed one each.

Henry Johnson made 34 saves for the Braves on 40 shots. Brockville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Bears incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
