Huge game by Gilmour boosts Pembroke over Nepean, 5-1

Alex Gilmour was all over the ice for the Pembroke Lumber Kings, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Pembroke's 5-1 win over the Nepean Raiders.

Gilmour beat Francis Marotte with a shot 18:18 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ben VanOoteghem provided the assist. Gilmour dished an assist on Derek Varrin's goal that made the score 2-1 Pembroke at 18 seconds into the second period. He added another helper on Noah Maika's goal that made the score 4-1 Pembroke at 12:36 into the second period.

The Lumber Kings were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. Pembroke surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Lumber Kings kept Nepean's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marotte made 35 saves on 40 shots.

Pembroke additionally got points from Varrin, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Pembroke also had goals scored by Nicolas Vlahos and Brett Horn, who scored one goal each. More assists for Pembroke came via Wesley Ashley, Cale List, Patrick Kyte, Tyler ONeill, and Adam Beveridge, who each chipped in one.

The Raiders forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Nepean had been spending in the box.

The Raiders were led by Corey Tam, who scored the team's only goal. Tam scored on the power play 6:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Nepean. Nepean had taken the advantage when Pembroke's Kyte got sent off for roughing. Samuel Meisenheimer assisted on the tally.

The Lumber Kings' Gabe Mollot-Hill stopped 17 shots out of the 18 that he faced. Pembroke registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Johnny Kyte and Fraser Turner were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Raiders registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Nepean, Blake Dalton and PJ Heger were ejected from the contest.
