Corey Caruso gave the Smiths Falls Bears the lead in the first period, and the Ottawa Senators was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

Smiths Falls took over the lead for good with a goal by Caruso at 9:46 in the first period. Chris MacMillan assisted on the tally.

Evan DeBrouwer frustrated Ottawa's offense all game, and stopped 32 shots en route to a shutout. DeBrouwer managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.47 prior to the game.

The Bears were led by Caruso, who racked up one goal and one assist.

Smiths Falls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Senators to score on any of their five power plays. The Bears' defense was surprisingly good. Smiths Falls allows 2.7 goals per game. The Bears forced Ottawa goalie Ian Andriano to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Smiths Falls also got a goal from Michael McKenney as well. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Brett Garvey, who had one.

The Senators stifled Smiths Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Ottawa did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Senators put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Bears were unable to stop Ottawa from sending pucks towards the net, and the Senators eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Smiths Falls incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Andriano rejected 32 shots on goal for Ottawa. The Senators incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
