Cumberland holds on for 7-5 win against Pembroke

The Pembroke Lumber Kings tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Cumberland Grads held on for a 7-5 victory.

Cumberland made the score 7-4 on a goal by Martin Frechette at 8:56 in the third period, and Pembroke got as close as 7-5 when Derek Varrin scored 16:51 into the third period.

The Grads got the win behind a great game by Shawn Cameron, who had one goal and three assists. Cameron scored 8:44 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Cumberland. Marc-Olivier Bouchard picked up the assist.

Cumberland forced the Lumber Kings' netminders to work between the pipes, finishing with 46 shots and forcing 39 saves. Boyd Diclemente made 33 stops and Gabe Mollot-Hill made six. The Grads outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Cumberland averages 4.3 goals per contest. The Grads' penalty kill unit could not stop Pembroke's power play, which converted on three of five opportunities.

Cumberland also got points from Frechette, who also registered two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Cumberland included Jared Leslie, who had two and Matthieu Franche and Grant Hebert, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Zackhary Salloum, Mathieu Dubois, Michael Larose, Cody Kyle, Joey Sollazzo, Benoit Villeneuve, and Simon Besner, who each chipped in one.

The Lumber Kings' offense rang up 31 shots on Cumberland's net.

Pembroke was led by Patrick Kyte, who had one goal and three assists. Kyte scored 8:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke. Pembroke additionally got points from Varrin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Pembroke also had goals scored by Chris Minns, Nicolas Vlahos, and Alex Gilmour, who each put in one. More assists for Pembroke came via Justin Felhaber and Brett Horn, who contributed one each.

The Grads' Ryan Coughlin stopped 26 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Cumberland incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Lumber Kings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
