Kemptville wins tough contest against Cornwall, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Kemptville 73s escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Cornwall Colts.

Kemptville gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matt Tugnutt 19:52 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Tugnutt was all over the ice for the 73s, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win.

Kemptville forced Cornwall goalie Brett Nichol to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Kemptville also got points from Cameron Russell, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Kemptville included Owen Guy and Bobby Dow, who scored one goal each. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Alex Row, who had two and Quinn Wichers, Adam Alavi, and Brandon Cole, who contributed one each.

The Colts were helped by Brennan Markell, who racked up one goal. Markell scored 2:09 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Cornwall. Jeremy McFarlane assisted on the tally. Cornwall additionally got points from Grant Cooper, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cornwall also got a goal from Nick Lalonde as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Ross Craig, who had two and Dean Derouchie and Tanner Spink, who each chipped in one.

The 73s' Nicholas Hodgins stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Kemptville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Brett Nichol made 41 saves for Cornwall on 45 shots. The Colts incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
