Hawkesbury downs Cumberland in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Navan Memorial Centre Tue, Jan 12, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Hawkesbury Hawks pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Cumberland Grads on a clutch goal by Charles Levesque. Hawkesbury came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Hawks fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Cumberland's Ted McCabe at 8:50 in the first period. Hawkesbury knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Johnathan Kovacevic at 9:42 in the third period. The Hawks were led by Levesque, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Levesque scored 1:58 into overtime to make the score 3-2 Hawkesbury. Kovacevic assisted on the tally. Hawkesbury excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Hawks kept the Grads' goalie busy throughout the game, and Thierry Messervier made 35 saves on 38 shots. Hawkesbury also got points from Kovacevic, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Chris Smith, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Vincent Crivello, who had one. Cumberland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Hawkesbury power plays. The Grads were held below their usual level of production. Cumberland puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Cumberland also got a goal from Marc-Olivier Bouchard as well. More assists for Cumberland came via Matthieu Franche, Tyler Barban, Michael Larose, and DAndre John, who contributed one each. Cole Skinner recorded 17 saves for Hawkesbury. The Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Grads ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For Cumberland, Cody Kyle was ejected from the game.
