Cumberland beats Smiths Falls 6-2 as Frechette gets hat trick

The Smiths Falls Bears could not stop the Cumberland Grads' Martin Frechette, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-2 win.

Frechette's first goal came 5:57 into the second period. He then added goals at 6:27 into the second and at 16:36 into the second.

Cumberland excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Grads' offense rang up 42 shots on Smiths Falls' net.

Cumberland also got points from Branden Makara, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Michael Larose, who also had one goal and one assist. Cumberland also got a goal from Mathieu Dubois as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Shawn Cameron, who had three, Grant Hebert and Simon Besner, who each chipped in one, and Marc-Olivier Bouchard and Adam Dauda, who contributed two each.

The Bears kept Cumberland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Thierry Messervier made 39 saves on 41 shots.

Smiths Falls was led by Brett Garvey, who finished with one goal and one assist. Garvey scored 4:48 into the third period to make the score 5-2 Cumberland. Sterling Bray provided the assist. Anthony DiPlacido also scored for Smiths Falls. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Corey Caruso and Cole Busschaert, who each chipped in one.

The Grads incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Bears' Evan DeBrouwer stopped 36 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Smiths Falls incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
