Carleton Place survives Cornwall comeback, wins 6-4

The Cornwall Colts almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Carleton Place Canadians managed to pull out a 6-4 win in the end.

Carleton Place led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Canadians' Tim Theochardis scored at 3:32 in the first period to put Carleton Place up 3-0.

The Canadians' offense was sparked by Jordan Larson, as he ended with four assists in a victory against Cornwall.

In the losing effort, the Colts were led by Tristan Elie, who tallied two goals and one assist. Elie scored the first of his two goals at 9:21 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place. Nick Lalonde assisted on the tally. Elie's next tally made the score 4-4 with 10 seconds left in the second period. Cornwall had gotten the advantage when Carleton Place's AJ Klein was sent off for cross checking. Parker Krol picked up the assist.

The Canadians' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Carleton Place surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Colts were unable to stop the Canadians from sending pucks towards the net, and Carleton Place eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The defensemen of the Canadians were also effective in Cornwall's zone, and came away with two goals.

Carleton Place also got points from Lucas Batt, who also had one goal and one assist, Connor Merkley, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Bryce VanHorn, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Brett Murray, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Maxime StPierre, who had two and Marcus Joseph and Will LeNeave, who contributed one each.

The Colts' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Cornwall finished with 18 penalty minutes.

Cornwall additionally got points from Lawson MacDougall, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Dean Derouchie also scored for Cornwall. More assists for Cornwall came via Matthew Morin, who had one and Tanner Spink, who had two.

Carleton Place's starting goalie, Colton Point, made 10 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Adrian Clark, who stopped six shots. The Canadians registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities. Carleton Place ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and LeNeave was ejected from the game. Liam Lascelle made 28 saves for the Colts on 34 shots. Cornwall registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
