Hawkesbury outlasts Gloucester, 4-2

The Hawkesbury Hawks and the Gloucester Rangers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Hawkesbury made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jonathan Cyr secured the win for the Hawks with a goal in the third period.

Hawkesbury was led by Cyr, who racked up one goal. Cyr scored 4:46 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Hawkesbury.

The Hawks forced Gloucester's netminders to work all game long, taking 45 shots and forcing 41 saves. Doug Johnston made 40 stops and Cedric Hansen made one. Hawkesbury stifled the Rangers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Hawkesbury additionally got points from Joe Smith, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Bruno Cheff, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Brett Everson as well. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Ryan Bunka, Ryan Jackson, and Nathan Sanderson, who contributed one each.

Gloucester managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Rangers finished below its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game.

Gloucester was helped by Sander Boroczky, who finished with one goal and one assist. Boroczky scored 46 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-2. Matt Adams picked up the assist. Gloucester also got points from Paul Vella, who also finished with one goal and one assist.

James Hack made 26 saves for the Hawks on 28 shots. Hawkesbury incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Rangers registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
