Cornwall takes care of Kemptville early, wins 6-3Ed Lumley Arena Thu, Oct 08, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cornwall Colts opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 6-3 win over the Kemptville 73s. Grant Cooper was all over the ice for Cornwall, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Cooper scored the first of his two goals at 41 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cornwall. Dean Derouchie assisted on the tally. Cooper's next tally made the score 6-2 Cornwall with 8:20 left in the third period. A roughing penalty on Jason Tackett had put the Colts on the power play. Derouchie picked up the assist. Cornwall forced Kemptville's goalies to work in net, finishing with 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Nicholas Hodgins made 25 stops and Charlie Jensen made three. The Colts surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Cornwall averages 3.2 goals per game. Cornwall also got points from Derouchie, who also had one goal and two assists. Cornwall also had goals scored by Keegan Mulhearn, Lawson MacDougall, and Brennan Markell, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Nick Lalonde, Jeremy McFarlane, Justin McRae, and Tristan Elie, who each chipped in one and Tanner Spink and Matthew Morin, who contributed two each. The Colts were unable to stop the 73s from sending pucks towards the net, and Kemptville eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. The 73s were helped by Alex Row, who racked up one goal. Row scored on the power play 10:44 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Cornwall. Kemptville had gotten the advantage when Cornwall's Cooper was sent off for boarding. Brandon Cole provided the assist. Kemptville additionally got points from Matt Tugnutt, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Owen Guy also scored for Kemptville. More assists for Kemptville came via Cameron Russell, who had one. Liam Lascelle rejected 35 shots on goal for the Colts. Cornwall incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The 73s incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
