The Cumberland Grads used a sparkling performance by Ryan Coughlin to take down the Cornwall Colts, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Cumberland's 3-0 shutout victory. The Grads pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes. Cumberland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Cornwall power plays. The Grads' defensive play was more effective than usual against Cornwall. Cumberland allows 2.9 goals per game. The Grads were helped by Branden Makara, who registered one goal. Makara scored 5:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Others who scored for Cumberland included Grant Hebert and Martin Frechette, who each put in one. The Colts could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Cornwall puts an average of 3.0 pucks into the net per game. The Colts' offense rang up 44 shots on Cumberland's net. Coughlin rejected 44 shots on goal for the Grads. Cumberland registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. James Edwardson recorded 25 saves for Cornwall. The Colts incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Cornwall ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tristan Elie was ejected from the game. |
