Stouffville falls to Wellington after surprising comeback

The Wellington Dukes climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Stouffville Spirit, 5-3.

Wellington never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Dukes was down 3-0 after a goal by Stouffville's Josh Argier at 10:58 in the first period. Wellington tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Shaw Boomhower at 12:05 in the second period. The Dukes netted the game winner on the power play at 12:57 in the third period on a goal by Boomhower.

Luc Brown had two goals to lead Wellington to victory. Brown scored on the power play at 16:57 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Stouffville and again while 18:45 into the third to make the score 5-3 Wellington.

The Dukes forced the Spirit goalie Aaron Taylor to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Wellington also had goals scored by Tyler Burnie and Ben Sokay, who each put in one. In addition, Wellington received assists from Dylan Mascarin, who had two, Justin Bean, who had three, and Nicolas Mucci, Jacob Panetta, Aidan Girduckis, William Ward, and Matt Adams, who each chipped in one.

Stouffville was helped by Nathan Hudgin, who registered one goal and one assist. Hudgin scored 5:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Stouffville. Sam Hu picked up the assist. Stouffville also got points from Christopher Brill-Morgan, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Max Novick, who had one.

Wellington's Olivier Lafreniere stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Dukes incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Taylor rejected 38 shots on goal for the Spirit. Stouffville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
