Mannella leads Whitby to shutout victory over PickeringPickering Recreation Complex Fri, Feb 19, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Whitby Fury used a sparkling performance by Daniel Mannella to take down the Pickering Panthers, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Whitby's 3-0 shutout victory. The Fury pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes. Whitby was paced by Zack Fisher, who had one goal. Fisher scored on the power play 13:28 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Mackenzie Heber had put the Fury on the power play. Ryan Porter assisted on the tally. Whitby put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pickering to score on any of its eight power plays. Whitby also got points from Luke Keenan, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Ryan Taylor, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Kennedy Duguid and Ryan Heeps, who each chipped in one. The Panthers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Pickering averages 2.9 goals per game. Daniel Mannella made 26 saves for the Fury on 26 shots. Whitby registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Mathew Woroniuk rejected 27 shots on goal for the Panthers. Pickering incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. |
