Cobourg hangs on, beats Markham 2-0

The Cobourg Cougars beat the Markham Royals, 2-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 9:13 into the first period by Ryan Casselman proved to be the game winner, and powered Cobourg to the victory. Brennan Roy picked up the assist.

Casselman had a great game for the Cougars, netting two goals.

Cobourg was boosted by Stefano Durante, who turned in a shutout with 30 saves. Durante certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.75 entering the contest.

The Cougars featured an improved defense during the game. Cobourg allows 2.9 goals per game. The Cougars kept Markham's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marcus Semiao made 31 saves on 33 shots.

In addition, Cobourg received assists from Matt Watson, Brenden Locke, and Mac Lowry, who each chipped in one.

The Royals could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Markham puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game.

Cobourg incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Royals totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Markham, Marco Azzano was ejected from the game.
