The Newmarket Hurricanes and the Stouffville Spirit skate to 2-2 (OT) tieRay Twinney Rink 1 Thu, Feb 18, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Newmarket and Stouffville could not settle their match and fought to a 2-2 tie. The Hurricanes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Stouffville power plays. The Spirit were unable to stop Newmarket from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hurricanes eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Newmarket was helped by Ryan Young, who racked up one goal. Young scored 3:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Jonathan Colley assisted on the tally. Newmarket also got a goal from Owen Ramsay as well. More assists for Newmarket came via Alex Ierullo and Christian Cella, who contributed one each. Stouffville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hurricanes to score on any of their four power plays. The Spirit's offense rang up 39 shots on Newmarket's net. Stouffville was helped by Alex Williamson, who registered one goal. Williamson scored 6:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stouffville. Josh Argier picked up the assist. Stouffville additionally got points from Jack Varga, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Calvin Martin and Kyle Thomas, who each chipped in one. Dalton Ewing rejected 37 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Aaron Taylor recorded 40 saves for the Spirit. Stouffville incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
