Elliott's big game bests Kingston in 6-3 Whitby win

The Whitby Fury had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-3 win over the Kingston Voyageurs.

Steven Elliott was all over the ice for Whitby, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Elliott scored the first of his two goals at 1:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Elliott's next tally made the score 4-1 Whitby with 1:20 left in the second period. Kennedy Duguid picked up the assist.

The Fury forced Voyageurs' goaltenders to work in net, firing 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Zach Springer made 11 stops and David Richer made 17. Whitby put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kingston to score on any of its four power plays. The Fury bested their season scoring average. Whitby has scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Whitby also got points from Nik Coric, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Luke Keenan, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Zack Fisher, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Ryan Heeps as well. More assists for Whitby came via Brock Welsh, Scott Kirton, Rylee McKinnon, and Ryan Taylor, who contributed one each.

The Voyageurs forced the Fury goalie Daniel Mannella to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Kingston could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 50 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Voyageurs were helped by Connor Cobbold, who had one goal. Cobbold scored 1:06 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Danny Bosio provided the assist. Kingston also had goals scored by Jacob Hanlon and Ian Harris, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Kingston were Anthony Rinaldi, who had one and Jack Zielinski, who had two.

Daniel Mannella made 33 saves for Whitby on 36 shots. The Fury incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kingston ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Reed Kekewich was ejected from the game.
