Oakville shrugs off penalties, upends North York, 5-2

The Oakville Blades' penalty kill was superb, as Oakville survived multiple penalties to beat the North York Rangers, 5-2.

The Blades were led by Tyler Rollo, who tallied one goal and one assist. Rollo scored short handed 5:27 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Oakville. Oakville played down a man on Paul Butler's interference.

The Blades stifled North York's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Oakville's offense rang up 33 shots on the Rangers' net.

Others who scored for Oakville included Ryan Garvey, who had two and Daniel Jelic and Josh Kosack, who each put in one. In addition, Oakville received assists from Christian Rajic, who had three and Ryan Foss and Brayden Sampson, who contributed one each.

North York's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Rangers surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Blades were unable to stop North York from sending pucks towards the net, and the Rangers eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

North York was helped by Chris Sekelyk, who racked up one goal. Sekelyk scored 7:09 into the second period to make the score 2-1 North York. Nick Campoli picked up the assist. North York also got a goal from Keegan Blasby as well. More assists for North York came via Ted Hunt and Kyle Clarke, who each chipped in one.

Oakville's Brendan McGlynn stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Blades incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Gianluca Baggetta rejected 28 shots on goal for the Rangers. North York registered zero goals on six power play opportunities. The Rangers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jeremy Szabo was ejected from the game.
