Newmarket falls to Kingston in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Reid Russell gave the Kingston Voyageurs a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes when he scored 1:57 into the extra period.

Kingston overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Voyageurs fell behind 3-0 after a goal by Newmarket's Owen Ramsay at 9:10 in the first period. Kingston tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Marty Lawlor at 10:38 in the third period.

The Voyageurs were led by Russell, who finished with one goal.

Kingston forced the Hurricanes goalie Dalton Ewing to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Kingston also had goals scored by Josh Hardiman, Zachary Emelifeonwu, Danny Bosio, and Ian Harris, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Kingston were Jacob Hanlon, who had two and Colin Tonge, Mason Corliss, and Connor Cobbold, who each chipped in one.

Newmarket kept the Voyageurs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Zach Springer made 38 saves on 42 shots.

The Hurricanes were helped by Todd Winder, who tallied one goal. Winder scored on the power play 6:48 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Newmarket. Newmarket had gotten the advantage when Kingston's Emelifeonwu was sent off for hooking. Marco Bozzo assisted on the tally. Newmarket also got a goal from Mitchell Duggan as well. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Nick Kalpousos, Jesse Tucker, Max Routledge, Alex Ierullo, Christian Dedonato, Andrew Breda, and Jonathan Colley, who contributed one each.

The Voyageurs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Ewing rejected 30 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
