Cobourg falls to Stouffville in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

Ryan DaSilva gave the Stouffville Spirit a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Cobourg Cougars when he scored 2:11 into the extra period.

Cobourg could not complete its climb out of a two-goal hole. Stouffville made the score 2-0 on a power play goal by DaSilva at 10:39 in the second period. The Cougars got to within 2-1 on a power play goal by Brennan Roy at 5:36 in the third period.

DaSilva had two goals and one assist to lead the Spirit.

Cobourg was unable to stop Stouffville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Spirit eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The defensemen of Stouffville were also effective in the Cougars' zone, and came away with three goals. The Spirit were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 46 penalty minutes.

Stouffville additionally got points from Max Novick, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Stouffville came via Nathan Hudgin, who had two and Chad Burrows and Josh Argier, who each chipped in one.

Cobourg racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The Cougars surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Cobourg kept Stouffville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Aaron Taylor made 29 saves on 31 shots.

The Cougars were helped by Mac Lowry, who finished with one goal. Lowry scored 8:51 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Josh Hopkin picked up the assist. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Matt Carroll and Ryan Casselman, who contributed one each.

The Spirit registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Cobourg's Stefano Durante stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Cougars registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Sam Dunn and Lowry were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
