Michaelis' hat trick boosts Markham over Wellington, 7-5

A hat trick by Hudson Michaelis was the highlight in Royals' 7-5 win against the Wellington Dukes.

Michaelis' first goal came 14:33 into the first period. He then added goals at 8:16 into the second and at 9:21 into the second.

Wellington's six penalties came back to haunt it, as the Dukes let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

The Markham Royals forced Wellington's goalies to work all game long, racking up 41 shots and forcing 34 saves. Olivier Lafreniere made 27 stops and Sam Tanguay made seven. Markham surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Royals average 3.7 goals per game. Markham's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Markham additionally got points from Matthew Dunlop, who also grabbed two goals and one assist and Aaron Spivak, who also registered one goal and four assists to lead the team in points. Marco Azzano also scored for Markham. Other players who recorded assists for Markham were Tyson Bruce, who had three and Sean Perichak, Lucas Condotta, Laine McKay, Trevor Abbot, and Rylee St. Onge, who contributed one each.

The Dukes forced the Royals' netminders to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Scott Smith made 20 stops and Marcus Semiao made eight. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Wellington was helped by Nicolas Mucci, who racked up two goals. Mucci scored the first of his two goals at 9:12 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Markham. Tyler Burnie assisted on the tally. Mucci's next tally made the score 4-3 Markham with 40 seconds left in the first period. Burnie picked up the assist. Wellington also got points from Matt Adams, who also had one goal and one assist. Wellington also had goals scored by Carter Allen and Jacob Panetta, who each put in one. In addition, Wellington received assists from Jacob Hetherington, Luc Brown, and Ben Sokay, who each chipped in one.

Markham incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Dukes incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
