Garvey's big game bests Burlington in 9-4 Oakville winSixteen Mile Sports Complex Fri, Feb 05, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Oakville Blades' Ryan Garvey had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 9-4 win over the Burlington Cougars. Garvey scored 10:35 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Oakville. Christian Rajic provided the assist. Garvey dished an assist on Josh Kosack's goal that made the score 2-1 Burlington at 15:09 into the first period. He then added assists on Rajic's goal at 1:00 into the second and on Patrick Kudla's goal at 19:36 into the second.Oakville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 19 penalty minutes. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:52 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Blades forced Burlington's goalies to work without much rest, ripping 31 shots and forcing 22 saves. Andrew Lee made 13 stops and Austin Washkurak made nine. Oakville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their seven power plays. The Blades outdid their season average for goals scored. Oakville averages 4.3 goals per game. Oakville also got points from Kudla, who also tallied one goal and three assists, Tyler Rollo, who also racked up two goals and two assists, Kosack, who also had one goal and one assist, and Rajic, who also registered one goal and two assists. Oakville also got a goal from Drew Worrad as well. In addition, Oakville received assists from Brandon Lukezic, Bryce Misley, and Peyton Reeves, who contributed one each. Burlington forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Cougars had been spending in the box. Burlington's offense rang up 36 shots on the Blades' net. The defensemen of the Cougars were also effective in Oakville's zone, and came away with two goals. Burlington was helped by Stefano Alonzi, who tallied one goal. Alonzi scored 14:31 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Burlington. Kevin Dimagno picked up the assist. Burlington additionally got points from Chris Cobham, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Willy Paul also scored for Burlington. More assists for Burlington came via Nicholas Holt, Zack Elson, Ben Morris, David Kiss, and Tyler Riter, who each chipped in one. The Blades' Brendan McGlynn stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Oakville registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Blades ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Paul Butler was ejected from the game. For the Cougars, Philip Lagunov was ejected from the game.
