The Newmarket Hurricanes came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Wellington Dukes, but did just enough to escape with a 4-2 victory. Newmarket led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Hurricanes' Mark Rozanov scored on the power play at 10:50 in the first period to put Newmarket up 3-0. The Hurricanes got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Newmarket also had goals scored by Mitchell Duggan, Marco Bozzo, and Nicholas Favaro, who each put in one. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Nick Kalpousos, who had two, Christian Dedonato, who had three, and Alex Ierullo and Andrew Breda, who each chipped in one. Wellington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. The Dukes were helped by Dylan Mascarin, who grabbed one goal. Mascarin scored on the power play 22 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 Newmarket. Luc Brown provided the assist. Austin Labelle also scored for Wellington. More assists for Wellington came via Nicolas Mucci, Shaw Boomhower, and Greg Smith, who contributed one each. Newmarket's Aidan Doak stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Olivier Lafreniere took the loss and made eight saves before being replaced by Anthony Popovich who made seven saves. Wellington registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
